Delve Into Falmouth's Maritime Heritage With Holiday Accommodation in Cornwall

If you're planning to book holiday accommodation in Cornwall to explore the town of Falmouth, be sure to take the time to discover the region's strong maritime heritage.

The town and port is situated on Cornwall's south coast and is a popular resort with families as a result of its seaside setting and plentiful beaches. But Falmouth is also a great place to visit if you've booked a last-minute cottage in Cornwall.

As well as the picturesque sandy areas, Falmouth is home to a bustling port, which has been at the forefront of the region's industry in the past.

Once you've settled into your Cornwall self-catering cottage, set about exploring the area, which is as famous for pirates and smugglers as it is for its magnificent castle. One place you shouldn't miss during your break is the Cornwall Maritime Museum.

Here you can uncover much of the region's past by looking at the different parts of the building, many of which are named after parts of a ship. In the lookout tower you can take in some stunning views over the sea, while the quarterdeck is full of resources to help you understand how boats are designed for different purposes.

There is as much for children as adults throughout the museum, making it a great educational trip for the whole family. In the Bartlett Library, you can sift through reference books and archive materials to gain a greater insight into Falmouth's maritime heritage. Meanwhile, from the pontoon, you can see boats on the water.

Interactive exhibits feature around every corner. If you go inside the Cornwall Galleries, view the Cornish Quayside exhibition and find out how local fishermen lived in the past, or explore the area's history through the Falmouth First and Last exhibition.

The Cornwall and the Sea illustrates the lives of the natives and how they have always made a living from the sea, as well as showing you how antique craft were built and who sailed in them.

After all that education, pay a visit to the beach and take a boat trip out onto the water to cement your experience before returning to your cosy Cornwall cottage.

The Best Bars in Le Cap D'Agde

A holiday in the sun in France can build up quite a thirst, particularly when you're staying in a resort such as le Cap d'Agde. With plenty of action available during the day both on the beach and in the resort, you will have earned yourself a nice, cool beverage by the time the sun sets. So, let's find out which are the best bars in le Cap d'Agde.

Johnny Wokkers

A great little place to go and meet a few like-minded people who speak your language, you might even make some friends that you'll want to keep in touch with once your holiday is over. The bar can be found at the end of the Port Nature building, and features a tunnel of sorts, which leads to the beach - perfect for a late night stroll following your drinks. The bar is quite small, allowing for a comfortable and cosy atmosphere where you can really get to know people rather than attempting to hold a conversation over the top of loud music as you might have to in some larger bars.

Melrose Café

Another bar that can be found in the Port Nature building, Melrose Café is one of the longest established, biggest, and most popular bars in the resort of le Cap d'Agde. This bar can get rather busy in the evenings, thanks to the live entertainment that you will often see so be sure to get there before the rest of the crowds do or you may not be able to find a place to sit. Complete with a dance platform where you can see regular customers and employees to get to show the best and have a boogie, this bar is full of fun and frenetic activity. Well known in the plant, Melrose Café is known for his film a meeting place for many French, so if you, a trip to the movies make you want to be on a table and dance.

Eros Cafe

Finally, if researchsomewhere new to wet your whistle you might fancy dropping into the Eros Café. A newcomer in le Cap d'Agde, this up and coming bar is likely to give the Melrose Café a run for its money in years to come. However, it is currently less crowded and therefore an even more pleasant place to spend an evening. With a large and spacious dance floor, the Eros Café is the best place to break out your moves and hit the dance floor. The bar also has some wonderfully comfortable and relaxing lounge areas where you can rest your aching feet, or take a seat and get to know your dance partner a little better. Easily as much fun as Café Melrose but slightly less happening, Café Eros is one of the best bars in le Cap d'Agde.

So, if you're looking for somewhere to wind down, relax and start the night in style, any one of the three best bars in le Cap d'Agde are guaranteed to get you in the mood for a good party.

Getting to Koh Phi Phi, Thailand

If you want to go to Koh Phi Phi in Thailand then I hope you have your sea legs because there is no airport on the island and the only way you are going to get there is by boat. You can take the slower and cheaper route and take the public ferry or if you are in a hurry you can charter a speedboat. You will cut your travel time in half, but it will cost you more than double.

As I said, the cheaper way to travel to Koh Phi Phi is via the public ferry. Whether you are leaving from Phuket or Krabi, there are ferries that make the crossing to Phi Phi on a daily basis. The ferry from Krabi leaves from the pier in Krabi town 3 times a day (10:30, 14:30 and 16:00) and the trip takes about 90 minutes. The cost is just 250 baht which is less than $10.

Ferries from Phuket also take about 90 minutes, but will cost you almost double or 450 baht. They leave from Rasada pier daily at 8:30 and 13:30. In either case, the ferry will drop you at Tonsai Bay in Koh Phi Phi and if your hotel or resort is located elsewhere on the island you will need to arrange for transport from there to your hotel. This isn't too difficult as there are many longtail boats at Tonsai willing to take you to most any point on the island.

If cost isn't a factor and you just want to get to Phi Phi as quickly as possible then your best bet is to charter a speedboat. This is undoubtedly the quickest way to get to the island as well as the most convenient. Speedboats can make the crossing and have you back on land on Phi Phi in as little as 45 minutes. Even better, many speedboats can drop you on the beach by your hotel so you can shave even more travel time off your trip.

You can expect to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 baht per person for this luxury. Costs can be somewhat higher than that during the high season and depending on your ability to barter with the speedboat captain. You can also cut the cost per person quite a bit if you have a larger party. There are speedboats that can accommodate up to 20 passengers and if you can fill one of these your cost might be close to the same as taking the ferry.

If you plan on taking a speedboat then plan on leaving by 16:00 as the speedboat captains prefer to get back before night falls. You can get a speedboat from either Phuket or Krabi.

Holidays to Koh Samui

Just one hours flight from Bangkok, off the east coast of Thailand lays this beautiful island. Not as lively as some of the other Thai resorts, Koh Samui is an ideal island for a peaceful and relaxing holiday.

On holidays to Koh Samui the glorious beaches and clear waters are ideal for swimming and there are a lot of superb bars and local restaurants as well. Combine your beach holidays to Koh Samui with a stay in the bustling city of Bangkok or relax on another Thai beach.

The third-largest island in the Gulf of Thailand, Ko Samui dominates an idyllic 80-isle archipelago. On holidays to Koh Samui, although the irresistible tide of tourism has rolled in, the alluring expanses of soft white sand beaches still beckon.

On holidays to Koh Samui, inland, as far as the eye can see, graceful coconut palms take the sun like forests of slightly swaying green parasols. Coconuts fall from the sky here-mind your head!-and keep the economy ticking over. Ko Samui's coconuts, according to experts, are Thailand's best, and some two million of them are shipped to the mainland every month (Aside from food and drink, the bountiful palms provide thatch for roofing, fibre for rope or matting, and coconut oil for candles, soap and food products.)

You will see when on your holidays to Koh Samui when the islanders are not harvesting the coconuts, they're busy cultivating rice in the paddies, out at sea fishing or-more likely nowadays-exploiting the tourist business.

Ko Samui was "discovered" belatedly because of its relative remoteness. It lies some 560 km (350 miles) south of Bangkok, and about 80 km (50 miles) east of the provincial capital of Surat Thani. It's closer to Malaysia than to Bangkok. When they built the island's airport, the distance from the metropolis suddenly became manageable and the curtain rose on the era of mainline tourism. Holidays to Koh Samui are becoming more and more popular with people returning year after year.

On your holidays to Koh Samui you will find that Thai food can be so spicy that it's tempting to gulp a glass of cold water to put out the fire. Resist that urge! A few mouthfuls of plain boiled rice will prove much more effective. Actually, chilli peppers are only one of the ingredients that characterize Thai cuisine; the others are as varied and original as lemon grass, coconut milk, garlic, ginger and mint.

On your holidays to Koh Samui Island, cuisine is often built in all the succulent seafood. Some restaurants specializing in foreign cuisine - French, Italian, Spanish or all-purpose cleaner "international". stalls are full of delightful surprises, like fresh fruit, exotic and familiar.

To travel on holiday on the island of Koh Samui, why not move? Only 14 km (9 miles) north of Ko Samui, Ko Pha Ngan island has some perfect beaches and refreshing waterfalls. Thong Sala is the main gate, but many excursion boats go toVillage Hat Rin, on the southeast coast, which is known for its wild party atmosphere. Even on holiday on the island of Koh Samui, Koh Tao visit, still an unspoilt island with spectacular coral reefs. This is a two-hour drive from Ko Pha Ngan by speedboat.

The most striking monuments are under the umbrella of the Ang Thong Marine National Park protected. These 40 islands northwest of Ko Samui, are all ingredients of dreamscapes-tropical lakes, crescentThe beaches, coral reefs, rain forests, caves and limestone formations. Day trips from Ko Samui to meet the high spots, and you should increase or stay forever.
