Go East young man! Travels in the East - Adventure Asia

After a summer serving in war zones, East Africa, where I slept in a tent for two of the three months I was there, I'm back in the U.S. for training of law to begin. Much less adventurous and difficult for me, I fought with passion my first year at law school. Although I spent the first half of the courses from the skin of my teeth, my GPA was pretty daunting thought for someone to make a career as a lawyer.

Fortunately, it tookfew months after our second semester final examinations and sort by appointment. Therefore, I have good faith in an international law firm and summer internship program will follow at the University of Hong Kong. Located in the beautiful Victorian lace top, I immersed myself in the depths of science and international law.

What was unique about these three months in Hong Kong during the summer of 1995 was that the British government or submitted. On a trip to the High Court, I saw Chinese judges wearing white BritishStyle wigs. It was a rare site and look funny.

My passion, in particular, has helped the oppressed people in forgotten countries where their human rights have been violated. Unfortunately, I learned from my professor of law in Hong Kong, that international treaties are rarely human rights by the United Nations or anyone else in the world. To me that is the relevance of international law, and my interest in the study reduced.

In those days, a particular religiousGroup of smuggling Bibles to Hong Kong to Shenzhen, China. I have been asked to participate, which I did. In this day of smuggling Bibles was much more exciting of my entire summer in the books of law in Hong Kong buried.

After his return to the success of my summer internship and academic program, I opened a letter from my law school deter encouraged me in my bed desolate average grade point of retreat.

You wonder what the hell should I do with my life now, if thisGo home to my apartment in Brooklyn Heights, I heard a voice. "Go East Go East young man!"

Packed what I heard, I decided to go to China Town this week. In this way, I met a Chinese pastor who I was immediately offered a job to travel with him across Asia and his English teacher. Without hesitation, I gladly accepted. Not long after, I was in Taipei, Taiwan.

Across the street from my new flat, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Park is named in honor ofRevolutionary leader of China, the Taiwan government in power. Jet lag the first week I was in Taiwan, I went out looking for something to eat when I discovered the beautiful nearby park.

Many people are practicing, enjoying the cool morning air. Tai Chi was a particular favorite of what I saw men and when done with concentration and precision. The internal Chinese martial art often practiced for health and longevity. The slow andflowing movements facilitate inner harmony and unity within.

Before the work began, was to raise the national flag to celebrate a day of a soldier. It 'been a pleasure to see and watch. Although I could not speak Mandarin, which I saw with my own eyes captivated my heart and lodged a deep respect for Chinese culture.

Because of my association with Pastor Ko and otherwise respectable, he soon became a highly sought-out speaker. OtherAsia began hearing from me and invited me to their home countries.

My trip to Burma was more than a secret operation where I was invited to speak as a "blackout", where foreigners were not allowed. However, after a meeting with my first contact in Rangoon, we were able to exchange the currency issue and secure a domestic flight to the remote destination.

There was no electricity. I slept on a mattress under a mosquito net on the stroke, whilebig rat scanning light at night. We hung our supplies and fruits by a thin string, the rats during the evening you get to keep.

When I awoke in the morning, there was always some fresh rodent droppings on my fly. However, I was pleased how light the suffering in front of the enthusiastic response of people when I talked to them about personal empowerment and support a world-changer.

Since they had closed the BurmaStudents did what they could for their education and professional development. That's why she's so happy to hear me talk of states.

Historically, the peaceful protests of students and Monaco in Burma ended in brutality and murder. What bothers me most however was the lack of opportunity for talented young people across the country. Religious leaders from the monasteries of rice a day on the streets of Rangoon asked. Democracy can not have been tolerated, as those in powerdetermined to maintain as long as possible.

What touched my heart the most was the humility and hunger to approach the young adult foreigners could learn what to do. This desire for knowledge and self-development to commit deeply touched my heart, I can do for young Burmese. I pray for freedom in the hearts of young people and monks of Burma can turn somewhat victorious and transform their beloved country.

After reaching my limit of 28 daysmy visa to Burma, I was forced to leave the country. My next stop was Thailand, a beautiful country with lots of sexual perversion.

Never in my life I saw how open prostitution of what I had in Bangkok and Phuket. prostitutes and transvestites free closer to the streets demanding payment for sexual favors. Often women and "Lady Boys" came to me to express obscenities and sales service.

The U.S. Navy and Marines arrived in Phuket like to party and take someextracurricular activities. Some men of friendship with the girl's local service. I can only imagine how many foreigners wake up drunk in the morning only to find that they sleep with a transvestite.

About the vices of prostitution, on the whole, Thailand is a beautiful place to visit for the holidays e. The food is fantastic. The people are friendly. The beaches are excellent. For the islands I visited were Krabi and Pi-Phee, tsunami hit the hardest by the latter.

A EuropeanInnkeeper told me stories of young Burmese women who had been abducted or promised to work in luxury resorts. As soon as the Burmese city girl were brought in, took their passports and were exposed to forced prostitution. I was informed that once the young women to HIV or some sexually transmitted diseases, are again to be connected to the Burmese border, since leaving lethal injection and death.

These violations are rarely fought, given the limited economicOpportunities in Burma. It is said that they also sell along the northeastern region of Thailand families keep their daughters into prostitution to earn money.

Although I saw many beautiful young women, I could happily stick to me. I was not interested to take advantage of all sexual diseases, I was told, was quite common in Thailand.

I traveled further south, when I received an invitation to Penang, Malaysia speak. Upon arrival in Malaysia, I felt astronger government hand on the ground. I found Muslims in Malaysia are very friendly and respectful.

My biggest adventure was traveling, East Malaysia, where I spoke in several poor villages. The precious people were very superstitious observances, practices voodoo different as I had only seen before in Haiti. Some claimed they were harassed and molested evil spirits. So I talked about the importance of guarding your heart, purity and personal lifewithout fear.

The villagers were very happy to try me as a guest and cooked meals for me countless. Their poverty in no way impeded their warm hospitality, or their generosity. I will never forget the tenderness of the heart of Malaysia has shown me.

An unexpected guest in a modest house in which I stayed was, it was a monkey. During the outbreak of Japanese encephalitis, if the military battles of all pigs, many fearedother animals the virus. Fortunately, we have never fallen ill with the disease and led to the outbreak free.

While in East Malaysia (Borneo Island), came an invitation to speak in Brunei. This small oil-rich nation did not have much to do socially at night, but people were all very kind and hardworking. Shell Oil and other petroleum products to shop entrepreneur attended small country.

What I was most surprised to see more than seventypeople jam packed in a small house and talk to me to hear. The event was organized by a Christian community that was not legally allowed to meet publicly hosted.

When I asked for clarification as to the laws of Brunei, I was told that only Catholics and Anglicans are legally authorized to engage in Christian ceremonies. Brunei has not allowed other religious groups, churches and schools.

It 'was then that I realized how invaluable the freedom of thought and expression, without which therebe no democracy or government alone to serve the people. This sacred freedoms, we in the West so often take for granted, well maintained and just wanted abroad, in countries such as Brunei.
Even though Brunei is a prosperous economy, a "dry land" that no alcohol is sold in the country. Of course, prohibits the consumption of alcohol has its advantages. There are drunk driving incidents that threaten people, drug abuse or excessive. As one who I do not drinkThese restrictions do not concern me.

However, as a traveler Asia World Touring Car, the laws of Brunei, that religion and limit the very conspicuous consumption. On a funnier note, the theme park free for the Sultan are all happy in the midst of the land use planned a coup! Children and adults of all ages are very fun and enjoy! My hope is the generosity of the Sultan to extend the social freedom for the people of Brunei.

After leavingBrunei we were in Jakarta, Indonesia. As surfers, Indonesia, the largest archipelago in the world, has quickly become my favorite country in Asia. Since I'm not much on the cheap hotels and basic living costs was very convenient for me to travel to Indonesia.

Better yet, people were very generous. Everywhere I was told I always left with more money than I came with. To go to a hair can be cut in the salon, I was surprised to discover today reflexology.foot massage is very popular throughout Indonesia and costs only about $ 5 to $ 10 as you go, where you are.

After a good workout in the gym, I even managed to get a full one-hour massage for only $ 10 to $ 15 USD. Suddenly I felt like a king, when I lived in a poor man's budget.

While traveling to different areas of Jakarta, my taxi driver pointed out to me an old hotel that was during the riots a few years ago had bombed. The building was completelydestroyed. I was told that Islamic terrorists had blown up in anticipation of President Clinton and other Americans to be there.

I learned about the riots in May in the affairs of China by Islamic extremists who have destroyed their houses and searched their purpose was to kill. Like clockwork every year in May, the country would leave the Chinese fear for their lives.

It seems that the Chinese life in Indonesia, the locals jealous. Your business sense and the smart wayfighting pollution in Indonesia.

However, there are equal opportunities for all throughout Indonesia. But many people are easily provoked to violence by the call statement. Unfortunately, many died over the years as a result.

I am deeply in love with Indonesia and came back several times. In particular, I remember my time talking to East Timor during the war in 2000 before the United Nations granted them sovereignty. It 'been a time of hardship and turmoil, as a warmany innocent people killed. Fortunately, Timor-Leste, as it is now called, is a country house in peace.

When the tsunami swept the island of Sumatra, I was sad for me to find a way to Banda Aceh. The long-standing separatist province of Indonesia have historically killed dissidents and religious leaders of other religions. Finally, the leader of the Banda Aceh prohibit international aid workers as a whole.

Everything has changed, as well as Banda Aceh and nearby citiesdevastated by the tsunami. international relief agencies from around the world suddenly received with open arms, shaking hands and smiling faces.

I met people who had lost up to five children and their wives in one day. A Muslim told me, he called two months long straight.

Strive to do what I could with what I had finances small, we helped a Muslim young man rebuild his home. His house was destroyed by the tsunami and washed the top of a nearby mountain, whereswept by the waves.

It 'been nothing short of a miracle that they kept alive. While all pulled together around their homes, bureaucratic delays hindered progress by the government for reconstruction. However, many continue to build, with or without permission.

other charges after corrupt government officials had appeared nationally and locally, and not pocketing donations to the needy. Such is the widespread corruptionIndonesia is clearly due to poor infrastructure and bad throughout the country.

Corruption is commonplace, unfortunately. More worryingly, the spread of drugs, I was seen among young people, many of which ecstasy. It is said that about 15,000 young people die every year from an overdose of ecstasy.

The island of Java also has its problems with prostitution. It is not something you would expect from an Islamic government.

The attacks in Bali nightclubs were set on fire and sent tourists killed anxietythroughout the tourism sector. As the economy took a nose dive, the Indonesian government and the police respond quickly to terrorist elements are trying to counter the national stability.

The dangers of terrorists remain in the remote areas in Indonesia, because you never know where to find a radical. Overall, Indonesia is very quiet, polite and friendly towards foreigners.

I often felt like a movie star everywhere I went, people in Indonesia, as I screamed with joy, hopereturn a wave or smile.

The sweetness and sincerity of the people stole my heart. Although I was born an American citizen, I left my heart in Asia. Every opportunity I have, I fully and happily returned to the continent where two-thirds of the population live in the world.

Here at home in America, I survive, but thrive in the Far East, I! Asia is where my heart is alive!
